Our Approach

At Laurel and Croton, we bring you original books you won’t find anywhere else—crafted in close collaboration with voices you already love and new ones you’ll be glad to discover. Our publishing emphasis is on crime fiction.

We believe great books are born from collaboration. That’s why our business model is based on partnerships with a trusted network of book coaches, editors, independent authors, and creative professionals. Teaming with experts across the publishing spectrum means that exciting stories become polished books that entice and captivate readers.

These partnerships allow us to move with the creativity and agility of an independent publisher, while upholding the professional standards that readers expect and deserve.

At Laurel and Croton, publishing is personal, and our partnerships reflect that. Together, we bring original voices to life—and into the hands of readers who are eager to discover them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What services do you offer?

We are a final-step publisher, using a network of editors, proofreaders and other publishing support cadre as a book advances through the journey from manuscript to final product.

Authors take the initiative to develop and polish their work with help from this support netowork prior to Laurel & Croton’s role.

Following publication, we work closely with authors to ensure that a book reaches its full potential and has the opportunity to resonate with audiences.

What kinds of books do you publish?

We specialize in original crime fiction—gripping mysteries, clever thrillers, and character-driven stories with high stakes and unforgettable twists.

Are your books available in bookstores or just online?

Our print books, ebooks, and audiobooks are available through a range of online retailers, including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc. Some titles may also be stocked by independent bookstores—check with your local shop or request them!

Do you accept unsolicited submissions?

At this time, we primarily publish authors we’ve connected with through our trusted editorial partners. However, if you’re working with a book coach or editor in our network, they may recommend your project for consideration. Any author looking to publish must have their manuscript professionally edited and develop a marketing plan for their book before contacting us.

How do you choose which authors to publish?

We work closely with a network of book coaches, editors, and creative professionals who help identify strong, compelling stories with commercial appeal. Authors are selected based on the strength of their work and their commitment to craft.

Do you only publish crime fiction?

Yes. Laurel & Croton is focused on all varieties of crime fiction by women authors, including police procedurals, thrillers, romantic suspense, and historical fiction. Our focus is on quality, immersive storytelling with multi-faceted characters, for both series and standalone books. We do not publish children’s literature, picture books, reference materials, or erotica.

Can I recommend a book coach or editor to your network?

Absolutely. We’re always open to expanding our creative partnerships.
